Metamorphosis: Do Not Fear

There is no doubt that being laid off forces me to deal with a lot of change at one time. I am changing routine, the people I hang out with, the requirements on my time. We just had our bedroom redone as a result of a flood. I have a set of green cushioned chairs positioned near French doors and a stone fireplace. One of those chairs is where I sit when I am working at home. BUT, my husband decided that he liked that chair. He has been sitting there doing his work since the remodel. That really was not a problem since I was gone most of the day working at church. Now I am not. I am home. I want my chair back. There has been a lot of shuffling, huffing, and negotiating for the use of the chair as we adapt to a new paradigm in our lives.

Right after the lay-off I was not sleeping well. Even though I knew this was a good thing from God, I would still startle awake after only a few hours of rest. My spirit was well, but my physical body was reeling. There was fear in my reaction, a sort of fight or flight response. I cried off and on for days, and now that it is a week and a half in the past I can still get choked up.

When there is change we face the unknown. The unknown can be scary. Scripture offers this in 2 Timothy 1:6-7, "Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

God stirs things up and gives us opportunities to grow through change. God's purposes are good. The methodology can be painful, but the result is beautiful. Ecclesiastes 3:11, "He makes all things beautiful in His time," speaks of how that process can take a while. Ouch! I want to move to the next phase quickly. Enough pain already, bring on the result.

My friend, Sally Morganthaler, now known as Morgan Meyer, and I reunited after two years. We are the kind of friends that when we get together it feels like some kind of nuclear explosion from all the energy. We know each other's hearts and that is a very good kind of friendship. We went for a walk at Crystal Cove while the tide was out so we could see all the dramatic rock formations and wade in the tide pools. Sally shot this video of me expositing on the lesson of the metamorphic rocks with my 8 megapixel camera. Check it out. It's my zany side. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAKxsPvHUMQ

And I let my husband sit in the chair sometimes. That's worship in real life.
